Johannesburg Metro Police and members of the task team investigating Meyiwa's murder on Sunday night have been looking his girlfriend and singer Kelly Khumalo but apparently she is nowhere to be found.
Senzo Meyiwa's father Samuel is apparently in Johannesburg to claim his son's belongings from Khumalo.
Khumalo was last heard from earlier today when she released a short statement sending her condolences to the Meyiwa family.
Meyiwa's family are reportedly trying to retrieve Meyiwa's BMW X6 and identity document from her.
According to Drum Magazine Meyiwa Snr is fuming because Khumalo refuses to hand over the belongings.
Meyiwa Snr told Drum they will be joining Senzo's younger brother, Sifiso and Senzo's wife, Mandisa Mkhize, when collecting his son's assets, including his two cars, from Khumalo's house in Spruitview, Ekurhuleni where the Bafana Bafana captain was killed.
Some of Khumalo's friends, who didn't want to be named, told City Press that they could not reach her. "We want to go and give her support as friends but she's not picking up our calls. So we'll leave her for now to give her space," said a close friend.
To make matters worse for Kelly Khumalo, cellphone thugs are trying to make a quick buck out of Senzo's death by using her to scam people.
On Tuesday night Kelly's friends, including the author of her book, Melinda Ferguson, singer Wanda Baloyi and Athi Geleba all received messages from Kelly's cellphone number asking for financial assistance.
This is apparently the number of the phone which cops confiscated as part of their investigation following the murder on Sunday night.
Wanda unfortunately fell for the scam and deposited R3 500, thinking she was helping a friend in need.
Speaking to Daily Sun, an angry Wanda said: "I can't cry about it but I'm sad people can use such a situation to make money."
She said it makes her ask questions about the morality of some of the people in the country and the ability of the police to protect citizens.
"I'm glad I'm OK and nothing has happened to me but I cannot just forget about it," she said.
Athi said she sent Kelly a message of condolence and got a reply saying it was Kempton Park Police Station which needed R3 100.
"But then I realised something was wrong," said Athi.
"I tried to call the number but no one answered so I informed the police."
Speaking on Kelly's behalf, Percy Vilakazi said cops took phones on the night of the shooting.
"I can confirm that the number of the phone with the cops is the one that has been used in this scam," he said.
"We encourage the people who received the message to report the case to the police.
"People must know this doesn't come from Kelly."
Brigadier Neville Malila said: "It is requested that Wanda goes to the nearest police station and lays a charge.
"The investigation team will look into the matter."
He said the phones taken at the scene were handed back to their owners.
