A toddler was found dead – beheaded with an angle grinder and his privates removed at Eldorado Village, outside Bochum in Limpopo on Monday afternoon.
Angry villagers turned their attention to the man who had been hired to fix the dead boy's grandparents' roof. They hunted him down, assaulted him and then hanged him.
Frederick's tiny body was found by his uncle, Masilo Mpashi, who had come home from work during lunch.
The community believes that the murder was muthi related.
According to Limpopo police spokeswoman Colonel Ronel Otto, Frederick and another boy were sleeping on the veranda when the suspect allegedly took him to another room, where the incident occurred.
A resident said: "We only read about these kinds of things in newspapers. This man got what he deserved."
Otto said no one has been arrested yet for the murders but that investigations were continuing.
