A man has been jailed was jailed under newly drafted laws in the UK that make it a crime to control people after he subjected his girlfriend to nine months of abuse.
Mohammed Anwaar forced girlfriend, Gemma Doherty, 30, to sprint on a treadmill as he showed her pictures of other women's bodies.
He also said he wanted her have a "huge a** like Kim Kardashian" in one of the first sentencings of its kind.
Speaking about her horrific ordeal Ms Doherty, who was also told what to eat and what to wear, has said she was forced to eat 50 cans of tuna a week.
Anwaar controlled Ms Doherty, 30, for roughly two years, Sheffield Crown Court heard.
Legislation which made his controlling behaviour an offence was only introduced in December.
Police have said his conviction could lead to many similar sentencings.
Speaking about her harsh treatment, Ms Doherty said: "He treated me like an animal - almost like a guinea pig in a laboratory.
"His favourite model was Gracyanne Barbosa and he would make me look at her fitness routines and practice them.
"If I didn't he would beat me."
She also told how Anwaar would look at pictures of Gracyanne whilst on the toilet, and would then return and tell her she needed to do more sit-ups.
The mum-of-two, formerly of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, said: "He would only let me eat tuna and beetroot.
"I would see my friends out and they told me to eat more.
"I was wasting away when I was forced to lose all these calories every day.
"I felt like a zombie on autopilot and was at his beck and call - whatever and whenever."
Anwaar, 27, from Sheffield, pleaded guilty to coercive and controlling behaviour.
He also admitted nine counts of assault and criminal damage.
One year of Anwaar's sentence is for his controlling behaviour, while the other 16 months are for attacks on Ms Doherty.
He once held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her while her terrified son hid under the bed.
