A family from Anambra State, Nigeria whose daughter was allegedly raped to death recently have criticised the attempt by the Investigation Police Officer to forestall the arrest of the suspects indicted in the act.
The father of the deceased, Mr. Cletus Mbaka told Saturday Sun that the IPO has extorted millions of naira from him on the pretext that he was going for investigation.
He also added that he was disappointed to realise that the families of the suspects now at large are working with the police officer who ought to have arrested the culprits.
Exonerating one Uchenna who was arrested on the day of the incident, Mr. Mbaka said the arrest by the police was in error since the coffin makers who were indicted over the crime have confessed and told the police the names of the suspects at large.
"I have told the police to release Uchenna having discovered that he has no hands in the death of my daughter, but the IPO, fond of extorting money from me and the parents of Uchenna, has seen us as his 'main market'.
"I'm calling on the concerned authorities to intervene and free the innocent boy." Mbaka stated.
Commenting on the development, the father of the detained Uchennna, Mr. Innocent Eze accused the IPO of allegedly extorting N10, 000 from him pretending that he was going to arrest the suspects.
He also accused the police of shabby investigation wondering why Anambra State Police Command was unable to apprehend those behind the heinous crime close to one month now.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, said the DCP has ordered the investigation of the extortion allegation while also assuring that the police will not compromise in arresting and prosecuting anybody involved in the evil act.
