A 28-year-old woman believes that her 48-year-old ex-boyfriend is used muthi on her and then threatened to kill her.
She now spends her days hiding from her ex allegedly claimed he was a lawyer in Johannesburg and promised to marry her.
The woman from Boipatong in the Vaal claimed the relationship went sour after the man fled with R46000 she gave him.
She said he told her he was going to use the money to buy things for their wedding.
"When I phoned him and demanded my money, he said he would kill me if I didn't stop bothering him," she said.
She said the man took her to meet his relatives in the Free State.
"They warned me he was a con man and that he was working with his wife to get my money. I think he used muthi on me because he convinced me to quit my job and take money from people.
"Every time we were together, he would receive calls from people he was promising jobs or selling things, and most of them sounded angry," she said. "At the moment, I owe my family and friends more than R30000."
The former boyfriend denied all the allegations and said he would help the woman pay her debts if she contacted him.
The police said they are looking for Thabo Thelingoane in connection with the incident.
