A mother has had her baby stolen from her after she let a stranger hold her baby while she waited in line at Walmer Township Clinic, in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.
The stranger disappeared with the two-month-old baby and the Mount Road's Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit are investigating a case of abduction after the baby's disappearance.
Police spokeswoman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the mother was waiting to be helped by nurses when the woman offered to hold the baby. The suspect said she needed to change the baby's nappy.
"The suspect left the clinic with the baby," said Janse van Rensburg.
The mother made inquiries and was told a woman fitting the description left in a taxi. Police are appealing for information.
