A prison officer was caught with a syringe of the sperm of an inmate she was having an affair with, a court has heard.
Alison Sharples, 46, claimed the syringe, which was found in her handbag, was used to give her granddaughter Calpol, Preston Crown Court heard.
However, tests proved the DNA matched that of HMP Garth inmate Marvin Berkeley.
But Sharples, who had claimed she was unaware of the semen, later said she was handed the syringe in the 'course of her legitimate duties' by the inmate who said he wanted to 'have a baby with her'.
She said she did not think it was appropriate to discard it in prison and put it in her bag, forgetting to discard it.
Prosecutor Camille Morland told the court the syringe was discovered as she arrived for work in October 2014.
Sharples former friend Nicola Ball told police Sharples was having an inappropriate relationship with Berkeley and even told her she had taken a phone into jail for her lover.
The defendant denies misconduct in a public office by having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate while working as an operational support officer.
The trial continues.
